Greetings!!!

It has been awhile since I have communicated with you. Just so you know, although the scorching heat of the summer makes you irritable, the Arizona Black Bar continues to strive! The Arizona Black Bar is going through a transition phase at the moment after changing its name from the Hayzel B. Daniels Bar Association. Elections for the new Executive Board will occur in November. Until then, I will continue to serve as President and Kesha Hodge will continue to serve as President-Elect of the organization.

Despite our restructuring, the Arizona Black Bar will host a luncheon for the ASU BLSA chapter, sponsor a Wills Day for Arizona first responders, host a happy hour and host a morning CLE regarding the Jena 6.

To get the year started, we will be hosting a Happy Hour next week at Oscar Taylor. I hope that many of you will attend the first Happy Hour of the year. One free drink and appetizers will be available. We will also have membership applications available for you to join or renew your membership. Definitely bring a friend and sign up together!

As you may also be aware, longtime member, Sidney Marable, passed away September 4, 2007. He was a driving force in creating and sustaining the Hayzel B. Daniels Bar Association. As some of you may recall, Sidney was the 2006 recipient of the Cecil B. Patterson, Jr. Honorable Service Award. Sidney was dedicated to his family, an excellent litigator, a wonderful person and a dear friend to many. In honor of his accomplishments, we are in the process of creating a scrapbook for Sidney's family. : The first General Membership meeting will be held on November 14, 2007. At that time, we will host elections for the new Board of Directors and Officers. If you are interested in running for a position, please let Kesha Hodge know at (kahodge@azlawyers.com).
